Abstract: The presence of ESBLs in many Gram negative strains are of serious concern, since these organisms are the most common cause of different human infections. ESBL positive phenotypically were tested for the presence of ESBL encoding genes using PCR with specific primers for the detection of CTX-M, TEM and SHV genes, then the amplicons were sequenced to characterized gene content. The presence of CTX-M, TEM and SHV genes was confirmed in 65/88 (73.9%) of the isolates. The ESBL genes were detected in 47 Escherichia coli, 14 Klebsiellapneumoniae, 2 Proteus mirabilis, 1 Serratiaodotifera and 1 Enterobactersakasaki. The nucleotide sequences were subjected to BLAST for sequences similarity and homology.

Abstract: Pediatric MDS is currently classified into three distinct groups namely MDS, Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) and Down Syndrome-associated leukemias (DSAL). The aim of this study was to evaluate pediatric MDS patients using the WHO 2008 morphological classification with the clinical outcome. In this retrospective single centre study, 19 pediatric MDS patients (median age 6 years; range 3 months – 16 years) were analyzed for their initial presentation, type of progression, leukemic transformation and overall survival as well as MDS related cytogenetic abnormalities. The median follow-up was 26.5 months. The most common single presentation of childhood MDS was RCC (26%). Leukemic transformation was seen in almost half of this cohort but was completely restricted to the DSAL and RAEB-T subgroups only. The median survival in the MDS group was 50 months, whereas for the entire cohort it was 35 months. RCC cohort showed the best survival with the median of 53.75 months, whereas the Down-related disease cohort showed the worst survival estimates with a median of only 11.25 months. Multivariate analysis showed that gender, platelet count, HbF, bone marrow cellularity, bone marrow blast percentage contributed significantly to the prognosis and survival. The study shows that cytogenetics, including monosomy 7 did not influence the outcome or the overall survival of childhood MDS. We identified that thrombocytopenia and BM blasts >5% were associated with a poor survival in this childhood MDS cohort.

Abstract: Conditions of sanitation remain a major challenge in Zimbabwe and particularly in Matebeleland South province. One of the sanitation challenges faced in the country is that of inequality. There are severe spatial inequalities in sanitation conditions in the districts of Matebeleland South province of Zimbabwe. This paper examines the spatial patterns of sanitation conditions in Matebeleland South province of Zimbabwe. Primary data used in this study was collected through questionnaires. The analysis of the data was done through the multiple component index method. The calculated multiple component indices were used to rank the districts according to the level of health conditions.

Abstract: The herbomineral formulations usage have been increased world-wide in health care sector due to their high safety and better therapeutic action. A new proprietary herbomineral formulation was formulated with a mixture of the minerals (zinc, magnesium, and selenium) and the herbal root extract ashwagandha. The aim of the study was to evaluate the immunomodulatory potential of Biofield Energy Healing (The Trivedi Effect®) on the herbomineral formulation in female Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. The test formulation was divided into two parts. One part was denoted as the control without any Biofield Energy Treatment, while the other part was defined as the Biofield Energy Treated sample, which received the Biofield Energy Healing Treatment remotely from eighteen renowned Biofield Energy Healers. The Biofield Energy Treated group (G3) showed 6.39% increased the CD4+ count compared with the disease control (G2) group. The level of IgM was significantly increased by 23.08% and 46.15% in the G3 group and Biofield Energy Treatment group per se at day -15 (G6), respectively compared with the G2 group. The total leucocyte count (TLC) and neutrophil were significantly increased by 16.15% and 26.69% (p≤0.05), respectively in the G3 group compared with the G2 group. Further, the levels of TLC, eosinophil, and monocyte were significantly increased by 70.57% (p≤0.01), 33.33%, and 8.50%, respectively in the G6 group compared with the G2 group. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) was reduced by 6.24% in the G3 group; while triglyceride (TG) and LDL were reduced by 12.12% and 16.99%, respectively in the G6 group compared with the G2 group. The levels of serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and total bilirubin were significantly decreased by 20.26%, 32.98%, and 25.00%, respectively in the G3 group compared with the G2 group. Further, SGPT and total bilirubin were reduced by 9.02% and 16.67%, respectively in the G6 group compared with the G2 group. Progesterone was significantly increased by 59.85% in the G3 group, compared with the G2 group. The data suggests that the Biofield Energy Treated test formulation and Biofield Energy Treatment group per se at day -15 have shown a significant immunomodulatory potential. The overall results demonstrated that the Biofield Energy Treated test formulation showed better immune response compared with the untreated test formulation. These data also suggest that the Biofield Energy Treated test formulation can be used for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, stress management and anti-aging by improving overall health.

Abstract: Ventricular torque magically pushes systolic ejection fraction, and such torsional moments originate in the Frenet frame of a curve of cardiac muscle. Since surgical treatments involve preoperative anatomy calculations of the cardiac muscle, the understanding of chamber geometric effects may guide left ventricular chamber-reduction surgery. We decomposed ejection fraction for an interpretation of geometric parameters in restoration and optimization of cardiac function. Three systolic geometric parameters--sphericity, contractility, ventricular torsion--were extracted for the ejection fraction from an epicardial view. The decomposing approach allowed us to estimate each factor’s contribution to the total ejection fraction with the exception of the myocardium-to-chamber volume ratio, which represented the thickening effect during systole. All other effects took parts in ‘shrinkage factor’ (β), which corresponded the ejection fraction with an infinitesimal layer of muscle. Through comparing parameters for left ventricular ejection fraction, geometrical rearrangement of muscle bands for ventricular torsion is the most effective mechanical axis during partial left ventriculectomy, while ventricular shape factor only plays a less important role during systole in dilated cardiomyopathy, which often misleads the surgeon’s assessment.

Abstract: Resistance exercise is a common mode of training may precipitate temporary exercise-induced muscle damage that manifests as a reduction in neuromuscular function, reduced range of motion, increased muscle soreness, limb swelling and the elevation of intramuscular proteins in blood. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of protein supplements on the process of rehabilitation for muscle injuries caused by physical stress. The study involved 21 clinically healthy men. Participants perform eccentric contractions of the quadriceps femoris muscle. All participants in the studies were randomly assigned to three groups. The first group received the protein supplement before exercise and placebo after the load. The second group received a placebo before the load and a protein drink after. The third group received a placebo both before and after the load. Before the load and 24, 48, 72 hours after the load, the maximum possible reduction (MPR) of the quadriceps muscle was studied, the severity of muscle soreness (MS), the content of creatine kinase (CK) in the serum. The dynamics of changes in the studied indicators was unidirectional in all groups. The index of the maximum possible reduction reached a minimum value 24 hours after exercise and gradually returned to the initial values in 72 hours. Between the first group and the control group no significant differences were found in any of the stages of restitution. At the same time, there was a significant difference in recovery in the participants of the second group and the control group at 48 hours after the load (94 ± 3.81 and 84 ± 3.12, P <0.05), which indicates a faster recovery of contractile ability of the muscles in the studied persons of second group. Just as in the study of MPR dynamics, there were no significant differences between the indices of participants in the first and control groups. In the case of participants in the third group, significant differences in indices are determined in the intervals 48 and 72 hours after the load. The peak values of CK recorded 48 hours after the load. Significant differences were found between second group and control (1448 ± 208 and 864 ± 113, P <0.05). Consequently the intake of protein supplements immediately after physical exertion reduces the duration of the subjective sensation of muscle soreness and promotes the fastest regeneration of damaged muscle fibers.
