About This Special Issue
Rapid advances in a collection of genetic and genomic technologies have pushed molecular biology to the forefront of the biological sciences. The overall aim of the Genetics and Genomics research theme is to harness advances in genetics, genome biology and genome technologies to improve the understanding and management of common and rare diseases, particularly cardiovascular, metabolic and autoimmune diseases and cancer. Genome information and technologies have impacted on almost every area of biomedical research, including molecular and medical genetics, cellular biology and biochemistry, physiology, epidemiology, pharmacology and gene therapy. We are now at a critical point in the development of these technologies for providing insights into the molecular, genetic and cellular basis of rare and common diseases, with growing opportunities for translation into improving individualised patient care. This special issue is intended to draw attention to the development frontier of new genetic and genomic techniques and technologies and their applications.
