Introduction
Graphene nanocomposites are promising new class of structural materials for the mechanical components of nano and microelectromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS). This special issue deals in detailed theoretical investigation of electrical and mechanical properties of graphene with the focus on their applications in sensors, actuators and smart electronics. The utility of graphene-reinforced composites for designing materials with low stiffness and high natural frequencies of vibration has utmost importance in technology. Polymer based nanocomposites reinforced with aligned, dispersed graphene and its derivative nanomaterials (reduced graphene oxide, functionalised graphene etc.) are identified as excellent candidates for microactuators and microresonators, with properties rivalling those of monolithic metallic and ceramic structures used in the current generation of NEMS and MEMS. Two-dimensional graphene, have attracted great research interests in recent years for various potential applications using the unique mechanical, electrical, optical and chemical properties. Examples of graphene in MEMS/NEMS applications such as electronic components, mass/gas sensors, supercapacitors, and others are introduced and the advantages and challenges for graphene devices will be covered. A qualitative comparison between the state-of-the-art in nanocomposite manufacturing technology and the predicted upper bound on Young's modulus and longitudinal wave velocity highlights the enormous improvements needed in materials processing and micromachining to harness the full potential of graphene-reinforced composites for microactuator applications.

1. Synthesis of graphene and different graphene derivatives
2. Different methods to reinforce graphene and its derivatives with various polymers
3. Application of graphene systems in NEMS/MEMS including Field effect transistors, resonators, sensors and actuators
4. Integrating graphene nano structures with nano, micro and macro scale devices
5. Local syntheses to construct graphene together with other components and applications in smart electronics
6. Transfer high quality graphene onto different substrate for the integration with other components
