Comparative Studies between Microwave and Other Extraction Methods
01About This Special Issue
Correlation between the pharmacological effects and the phytochemical profile of a plant extracts obtained by using different extraction methods is the general theme for this special issue. As the pharmacological effects of medicinal plants may vary as the relative and the absolute composition of each plant metabolites may vary, depending on the origin of the plant material, growing conditions, drying process, sample pretreatment, extraction temperature, extraction solvent and the extraction method.Microwave cooking becoming a common practice in many modern kitchens, therefore a comparative study of the phytochemical profile for medicinal plants extract obtained by using microwave and other conventional extraction methods, is essential prior to pharmacological evolution of these extracts. The aim is to optimize the extraction conditions, using microwave ovens and other methods of extracts, especially for food materials used in ethno pharmacology by local people; as natural remedies to treat or prevent different health problems.
This special issue invites papers on the following topics that are specific but are not limited to:
1. Comparison between microwave extraction with boiling or soaking extraction methods
2. Optimization of different extraction methods for the required pharmacological effect
