01About This Special Issue
Polyphenols a group of plant secondary metabolites are among essential bioactive compounds both for human and plants. Polyphenols are the most widely distributed secondary plant metabolites ubiquitously present in the plant kingdom. Plants synthesize phenolic compounds for various purposes including growth, reproduction, pigmentation and as a protective agent to insects and pathogens to list some. It also plays significant role in human by acting as a protective agent against so many degenerative and infectious diseases as cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus, oral and neurodegenerative disease, aging and others. It can be understood that this special issue can contributes to the understanding of the diversity, function and importance of polyphenols to human and plants.
