Urine retention is a common surgical affection in animals all over the world that causes economic losses. Diagnosis and treatment of this affection have been improved greatly over the last two decades. Moreover, preventive measures in the farms were improved to lower the chance of occurrence of such affection to reduce economic losses. In this special issue we focus on its clinical signs in different animal species with special reference to anatomical considerations; causes; new tools for diagnosis in clinical cases; experimental studies on that topic; different surgical methods used for treatment, and preventive measures in different animal species. The aims of the topic are to increase awareness of the problem; and to improve knowledge and skills of veterinary surgeons and how they can deal with this affection.
