Evidence-based management is a growing trend seeking to assert that decision making, especially in management and business contexts, should be involved by scientific, empirical research. It follows the success of evidence-based medicine, which is used to educate physicians and emphasize the value of using evidence in daily practice. Three strategies are seen with evidence-based education, including formally embedding problem-solving and decision making with an evaluative standard based on evidence, cognitive apprenticeship of how to reflectively utilize research, and experiential learning activities based on research and evidence.
Enhancing the need for evidence-based management are the differences in learning attitudes across multiple generations. This especially includes millennial and centennial learners. These later generations, perhaps more so that predecessors, want demonstrated practical value for their learning activities.
To date, extensive original and innovative studies have been conducted in the field of evidence-based medicine and the impact such educational programs have on the broader medical profession. A timely and well-organized publication on the current state of evidence-based management would be of great interest to readers of American Journal of Management Science and Engineering. It will provide practitioners and scholars with a timely review of this education trend.
