Modern image processing techniques that transpired from single modality research areas are now being switched towards hybrid methods with advanced and improved computational propositions that can be administered to images obtained from multiple modalities or numerous sources. Such image statistics is manifold, and the substantial quantity of data introduced via the hybrid techniques necessitates upcoming range of image processing technology to be augmented. To meet this challenge, customarily familiar image preprocessing procedures such as feature extraction, image fusion, classification and segmentation need to have assimilated intelligent methods that can tackle with the bulk and diversity of the information, and often be able to integrate and process data from non-imaging sources.

This special issue concentrates on image analysis issues that underscore new methods of examining complex images from single or multimodality systems, or systems that integrate imaging with non-imaging data. Manuscripts that narrates applications of advanced image processing solutions to biomedical and clinical fields are explicitly welcome.
