Guidelines for Submission
Manuscripts can be submitted until the expiry of the deadline. Submissions must be previously unpublished and may not be under consideration elsewhere.
Papers should be formatted according to the guidelines for authors (see: http://www.sciencepublishinggroup.com/journal/guideforauthors?journalid=118). By submitting your manuscripts to the special issue, you are acknowledging that you accept the rules established for publication of manuscripts, including agreement to pay the Article Processing Charges for the manuscripts. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the online manuscript submission system at http://www.sciencepublishinggroup.com/login. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the special issue website.

Introduction
Biological processes play a major role in the removal of contaminants and they take advantage of the astonishing catabolic versatility of microorganisms to degrade or convert such compounds. Microbial biodegradation of pollutants like intrinsic bioremediation, biotransformation, mycoremediation, bioaugmentation, biostimulation, bioventing and composting methods has intensified as a sustainable way to clean up contaminated environments. In the field of Environmental microbiology, major methodological breakthroughs such as genomic, metagenomic, proteomic, bioinformatic in recent years have enabled analyses of environmentally relevant microorganisms and the ability of organisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions and they will certainly accelerate the development of degrading technologies. The elimination of a wide range of pollutants and wastes from the environment is an absolute requirement to promote a sustainable development of our society with low environmental impact.

Aims and Scope:

1. The development of microbial biodegradation technologies
2. Degrade or transform of xenobiotics
3. New methodological breakthroughs
4. The evolution of degradation pathways due to the molecular adaptation strategies
5. Functional genomic and metagenomic approaches
6. The change of environmental conditions
