Biological processes play a major role in the removal of contaminants and they take advantage of the astonishing catabolic versatility of microorganisms to degrade or convert such compounds. Microbial biodegradation of pollutants like intrinsic bioremediation, biotransformation, mycoremediation, bioaugmentation, biostimulation, bioventing and composting methods has intensified as a sustainable way to clean up contaminated environments. In the field of Environmental microbiology, major methodological breakthroughs such as genomic, metagenomic, proteomic, bioinformatic in recent years have enabled analyses of environmentally relevant microorganisms and the ability of organisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions and they will certainly accelerate the development of degrading technologies. The elimination of a wide range of pollutants and wastes from the environment is an absolute requirement to promote a sustainable development of our society with low environmental impact.
Aims and Scope:
1. The development of microbial biodegradation technologies 2. Degrade or transform of xenobiotics 3. New methodological breakthroughs 4. The evolution of degradation pathways due to the molecular adaptation strategies 5. Functional genomic and metagenomic approaches 6. The change of environmental conditions 7. Elimination of a wide range of pollutants and wastes from the environment
