Introduction
As the global concerns in the development of human civilization, the scientific and technological issues of energy utilization and environment protection are currently facing challenges. Nowadays, enormous energy demands of the world are mainly met by the non-renewable and environmental unfriendly fossil fuels. To replace the conventional energy platform, a pursuit of renewable and clean energy sources and carriers, including lithium batteries, and electrochemical supercapacitors. (i) Electrochemical supercapacitors, also known as supercapacitor, ultracapacitor, or electrochemical double‐layer capacitor, can store relatively higher energy density than that of conventional capacitor. With several advantages, such as fast charging, long charge-discharge cycles, and broad operating temperature ranges. Electrochemical supercapacitors have found wide applications in electric vehicles, electronics, aircrafts, and smart grids. There are nevertheless still some challenges in electrochemical supercapacitor systems such as relatively low energy density and high manufacturing cost. (ii) Lithium and lithium-ion batteries are currently in use in a wide variety of applications but remain a challenging system and require further optimization mainly to meet the increasing energy density demand from portable electronic device sand electric cars.
This special issue will be fully dedicated to the Advanced Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion Applications. Original researches for new contributions in these fields, as well as review articles, are encouraged.
