About This Special Issue
This extraordinary special issue covers the cutting-edge research topics and outcomes regarding the development of industry, particularly revolutionized by Artificial Intelligence, IoT and relevant technologies. The software and Hardware architecture, algorithms, automation strategies, systems design and challenges encountered in a wide range of industrial sectors will be majorly discussed in this issue.
With the advent of Industry 4.0, information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) are seeking the way of converging in order to maximize both potential in making the manufacturing and production more efficient, effective and cost-saving. Indeed, AI, big data and IoT represent the disruptive technologies that trying to change the way in which traditional industry has been working, but when confronting the realistic problems industry generously shows its stubbornness and manifold specialties, such that even the relatively mature solutions in IT world can not be directly implanted into it. For instance, when using Deep Learning for classification or defects recognition, time and cost constraints are sometime too rigorous to be fulfilled by a well-performing algorithm in an Internet application. Meanwhile, most of the problems and data generated in industry are too enigmatic to be deciphered by only using IT knowledge. Therefore, there are far more work to be done, and in particular jointly by intellectuals from both IT and OT areas, in order to push forward the way of making a better and intelligent industry.
With this special issue, we sincerely invite all from whatever academics or businesses, to work closely together and to contribute your ideas, intellects and experiences, enlightening the whole industry of the world and pushing forward the practice of building better and smarter industry.
