Introduction
The special issue: “Recent Developments in Analysis and Design of Piled Foundations” welcomes original articles focused on recent analytical and numerical methods for piled foundations to assess the bearing capacity, load-settlement characteristics, structural integrity and time-dependent behavior. Methods based on modern soil mechanics theories, empiricism and physical modeling are encouraged, as are case-based methods relevant to piles and pile groups installed by different techniques. The special issue is envisaged to present a wide range of contributions on predictive methods for the resistance of single piles and pile groups of various cross-section geometries, materials and installation techniques to support compressive, uplift and lateral loading. Also of interest are design methods for piles for marine structures, machinery foundations, underpinning, mining subsidence control, piles in permafrost, energy piles for extracting ground heat and sustainable piles designed for re-use. Papers may also include durability assessment of piled foundations, modern ground investigations, pile testing techniques and pile design to Eurocode7 and other latest codes of practice in use worldwide.
