Introduction
It is well known that there are a plethora of chemical molecules of natural, semi-natural and synthetic origin. New chemical compounds are being isolated or synthetized day after day worldwide. Many of these molecules are able to impact biological organisms in positive and negative ways, giving them the potential to become a promising drug candidate or toxin.
The focus of this special issue in chemistry and biochemistry is depicting the molecular level of biological effects and possibly toxicity of some new natural and synthetic molecules, and also to define some antidotes for specific intoxications.
The special issue will go into detail on the impact of these molecules on processes such as inflammation, angiogenesis, thrombosis, and vascular disorders in pathology, such as atherosclerosis, atherotrombosis, and ischemia/reperfusion injury. Vascular system diseases are widespread in the world and, therefore, must be treated effectively. It is very important to find new molecular targets and biochemical mechanisms of action of novel molecules for further development of new and improved drugs for the treatment of these diseases.
