Oral health is an integral part of general health. Any change in oral health status brings subsequent changes in systemic health too. Even though this relation goes hand in hand, oral health is given least importance when compared to general health. India being second country with largest geographical area and a population of 1.33 billion we still do not have Oral Health Policy at national level. Among the quoted reasons the main being lack of awareness about the importance of oral health among policy makers. Can Advocacy and Lobbying be the answer for implementing oral health policy in India?

Advocacy in oral health is the act of arguing in favor of achieving the goals of oral health, such as a cause idea or policy in simple terms “raising your voice”. Lobbying is influencing legislation to bring changes in oral health status of community. Considering the cost effectiveness and oral health related quality of life, oral health should be given equal importance as general health. Let us join our hands together towards advocacy and lobbying to make it future perspective of oral health in dentistry.

Aim and Scope:
Importance of oral health
Increased prevalence of oral diseases
Need for oral health policy
Advocacy and lobbying in oral health
