Introduction
The innate musical talents through an appropriate education can be developed into musical abilities. In order to select the efficient methods for this development, the nature of the very talents, as well as the qualities - the abilities, which achieving is aimed, should be well known by the educators. In the special edition ‘Musical Theory, Psychology and Pedagogy’ the section ‘Musical talents and abilities’ is directed to a broader view of the initial and the target qualities of the professional musician and also of his erudite listener.

By logical musical thinking is meant the typical of a given geographic area, ethnicity or style development of the melody. Therefore, in the training the beginner musical performers, but also when working in the mainstream schools, among other necessary qualities and skills of great importance is to cultivate the ability to empathy the expressed through the music feelings and the sense of distinctiveness of the different types of melodic structures. The concepts, concerning this aspect of the work of the musical pedagogue, are presented in the next section - ‘Musical thinking.’

(The) problems, related to the acquisition of the professional qualities and skills, the emotional development of the performer of music throughout his artistic career, as well as the responsibility of the teacher of musical instrument to the talent and the personality of the students, are analyzed in the section ‘Musical Performance’.

The professional musician - performer, creator and pedagogue - should also possess solid knowledge of musical theory. Some details in this field are discussed in the theoretical section.
