About This Special Issue
The primary goal of this special issue is to highlight the need for an interdisciplinary approach in the management of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). OSMF is considered as an oral premalignant disorder of oral mucous membrane with high risk of malignant transformation (1.2-23%). Despite the advancements in research, a comprehensive approach for clinicians for diagnosis and management of OSMF is not available. Hence, interdisciplinary approach of OSMF in this special issue is aimed to provide better acumen and newer horizons in OSMF research and treatment. We invite contributions from different specialties of dentistry as well as other related branches of medical sciences (ENT, physiotherapy, biochemistry, pathology, dermatology etc.) which explores Oral Submucous Fibrosis, with particular interest in assessment of the disease progression and early detection of malignant transformation of OSMF. newer modalities of management of OSMF, which emphasizes towards the better quality of life of OSMF individuals by reversing the changes of OSMF through various therapeutic and adjunctive physiotherapeutic modalities.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
(1) Newer epidemiological data
(2) Research focusing on the etiology of OSMF in view of advancements in genetics and habits
(3) Newer diagnostic modalities
(4) Biomarkers of disease progression
(5) Non-invasive therapeutic modalities
(6) Invasive and surgical modalities of management
(7) Research addressing patient’s quality of life
We invite researchers, educators and practitioners to contribute their insights, experiences and research findings to this special issue.
Through this special issue, we aim to comprehend the advancements of research in OSMF which can translated into clinical practice which benefits a larger group of patients worldwide who suffer with this debilitating disease. We welcome researchers from various disciplines to provide interdisciplinary perspectives on oral submucous fibrosis – a multidisciplinary approach. Your contributions will play a crucial role in advancing knowledge in this field.
