Objective: To investigate the current status of head and neck tumor diagnosis and treatment in secondary and above medical institutions in southern China, providing reference for the allocation and planning of medical resources related to head and neck tumor care. Methods: A self-designed questionnaire was administered online to secondary and above medical institutions in southern China from September 2025 to March 2026. The questionnaire covered six dimensions: hospital basic characteristics, department setup and human resource allocation, diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities and hardware equipment configuration, treatment modalities and clinical practice, diagnostic and treatment processes and patient management, as well as research capacity and academic output. Results: The study included 106 secondary and above medical institutions across 11 provinces/municipalities in southern China. The results indicated that the overall level of head and neck tumor diagnosis and treatment in the region ranks among the highest nationwide, but significant regional disparities were observed, including insufficient standardization of multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, distinct stratification in research capabilities, and room for improvement in patient management systems. Conclusion: In response to these challenges, recommendations were proposed, including establishing regional diagnostic and treatment alliances, strengthening MDT standardization, and enhancing support systems for research personnel, to improve the homogeneity of head and neck tumor care in southern China.
