Abstract: In the face of COVID-19, urban residential areas in China have exposed problems such as large scale and insufficient public service facilities, leading to difficulties in closed management and basic living services in the time of epidemic prevention and control, and also reflecting the weak atmosphere of neighborhood watch and mutual assistance in the current urban stranger society. On the basis of analyzing the spatial attributes and social functions of the basic units of residential space, this article proposes to reconstruct the basic units of residential space in the mode of "Ankang neighborhood". In Chinese, "An" means safe, "Kang" means healthy. So the principle of the unit reconstruction of Residential Space is mainly based on the perspective of safety and health. This article discusses the scale, space, facilities and governance, and demonstrates the "Ankang neighborhood" with three typical residential areas in Nanjing, China. This article suggests "Ankang neighborhood" as residential space basic unit, to adapt to the more accurate social governance trend, so as to realize grassroots governance and social harmony. Although not perfect, it is very necessary to think about health, safety and resilience. It is an active exploration to respond to the growing needs of the people for a better life and build an all-age friendly residential space. It is also a beneficial attempt to build a new model of urban governance with high mobility and high density urban society.

Abstract: Informal settlements represent a significant housing stock in Algeria. Faced with this situation, the government settled on acknowledging them by means of regularizing their illegal status with the aim of integrating them into the general fabric of cities. This public reconciliation is defined by certain measures such as authenticating land ownership and housing tenure, and by initiating urban upgrading operations. This study aimed to identify the concept and importance of resident participation in the improvement of their informal settlement by analyzing an urban upgrading project. It is a field project concerning an informal residential neighborhood called La Rocade located in the city of M’sila in Algeria. The project was led by the municipal authority in collaboration with the university members and with the assistance of residents' representatives. Since this study concerns resident participation in urban intervention projects, the emphasis was on the third party, the representatives of the residents, by studying them as a group of individuals in their context using the method of ‘active participant observation’. The group, as an equal social partner, was actively engaged in all stages of the project process, sharing experiences and opinions to be used in the improvement of its urban environment. The group was also the proponent of the negotiating dialogue between members of the local community and the municipal authorities responsible for such urban initiatives. Results suggest that using urban upgrading projects to learn about resident participation can be considered an effective strategy for social-urban improvement since the insights gained can be used to determine and develop policies for civic involvement in public projects and the recognition, funding and inclusion of informal settlements.

Abstract: Over the years, a booming growth in Bangladesh’s population, has caused a massive change in the use of land in the city areas. Dhaka being its capital city, the most prominent changes can be observed at the heart of the capital. Once a tranquil residential area, Dhanmondi area has gone through massive changes with time. At present, Dhanmondi residential area of Dhaka city has become a multi-purpose zone, resulting in a massive load on the existing road network. Consequently, the social character of the area has changed very drastically. This has forced the use of neighborhood roads as secondary and tertiary roads, which lack edge and are not ideal for any neighborhood space. The purpose of this paper is to determine the spatial logic of the morphological transformation of the landuse pattern in the residential street of Dhanmondi, Dhaka. In this paper author would like to come up with alternative road network routes using Syntactics Analysis. Methodology will include both theoretical base of spatial findings and Syntactic analysis of current road networking of Dhanmondi residential area. Through alternative syntactic analysis, it will be possible to determine the significance of “Third Place” for the formation of the existing morphology of the Dhanmondi residential neighborhood.

Abstract: China is an ancient civilization with a long history and culture. There are numerous historic conservation areas in China. With the acceleration of urbanization, the research on the protection, renewal and activation utilization of historic conservation area has gradually become a focus in the field of urban design. And the awareness of top-down and bottom-up protection has been increasing year by year. Theoretical and practical research on historic conservation areas in the fields of architecture and urban planning is gradually becoming mature and perfect. In order to clarify the current research status of Chinese historic conservation area, the author of this article used literature analysis method and CiteSpace analysis software to conduct intensive reading and visual analysis of 264 core journal literature selected from CNKI. Combining tables and images, the author of this article has summarized the current research status of historic conservation areas from four aspects: research trends, research course, research scholars and institutions, and co-occurrence and clustering of keywords. In the conclusion section, the author points out the shortcomings of current research in non protected historic conservation areas, research themes, main users of spatial, evaluation research, management, and other aspects.
