Abstract: This study investigates how beach development in Cape Coast, Ghana, shapes both local economic outcomes and coastal environmental conditions. Anchored in sustainable tourism development theory, the study evaluates the extent to which tourism-driven coastal transformations balance economic growth, environmental protection, and community benefits. A qualitative exploratory design was used, with purposive sampling applied to select thirty-two respondents, including managers, employees, and city officials. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews complemented by field observations. The findings indicate that beach development has generated meaningful economic benefits, particularly through employment creation and increased demand for local goods and services. Environmentally, several operators have adopted sustainable practices such as replanting coconut trees, introducing energy-efficient lighting, reducing single-use plastics, and integrating natural ventilation into facility design. These efforts have contributed to cleaner beach environments and improved visitor experiences. Nonetheless, substantial challenges remain. Financial limitations undermine consistent infrastructure upgrades and environmental management, while inadequate sanitation and waste collection systems contribute to persistent littering along the coastline. Weak regulatory enforcement by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly further allows irregular development and poor waste disposal to persist. The study concludes that, although beach development is contributing positively to both economic and environmental conditions, its long-term sustainability depends on strengthened financial investment, improved waste management systems, and more consistent enforcement of coastal regulations. The insights generated may inform broader efforts to promote environmentally responsible coastal tourism in similar African settings.

Abstract: The study examines strategies that promote environmental sustainability in the face of food insecurity, environmental management challenges and poverty alleviation efforts which are contributing to the complexity of natural resource management. Among others, the objectives of the study were to: assess the effectiveness of current environmental conservation policies and programs in reducing pollution and protecting biodiversity; and identify and analyze innovative strategies for sustainable resource management that can be implemented across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, and industry and explore the impact of community-based conservation efforts on environmental outcomes and local livelihoods. The study adopted the Taro Yamane formula to determine the sample size of 422 out of a population of 9,697. The response rate was 96.44%, resulting in an accepting sample of 407. The study used survey design which involved questionnaire and structured interview for the collection of primary data. Responses from 4-point Likert Scale questionnaire administered were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study finds that even though the current environmental conservation policies and programs are effective in reducing overall pollution levels and that existing environmental conservation programs have been successful in protecting and preserving biodiversity in Nigeria, the effectiveness of policies and programs in reducing pollution in Nigeria is compromised because efficient enforcement is lacking due to inadequate resources, corruption, and lack of political will and many regulatory agencies face challenges in monitoring compliance with environmental laws. Moreover, public education on sustainable practices and pollution prevention is still limited in many areas, and this affects community involvement. Accordingly, among others, the study recommends that for effective enforcement of environmental conservation policies and programs, government should: encourage community involvement through community engagement and education in environmental initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of conservation strategies; promote sustainable agricultural practices, which are essential for environmental conservation; and prioritize renewable energy investment to improve resource management and reduce environmental impact.

Abstract: Financial performance plays a central and decisive role in the survival, development, and competitiveness of a business. Factors affecting financial performance can be divided into internal and external groups. This article examines how internal factors affect business performance, based on an empirical study of a non-state-owned enterprise in Hanoi, Vietnam. The article was conducted to study the factors of enterprises affecting the performance of non-state enterprises in Hanoi, Vietnam. The article was conducted in the period from 2019 to 2023 using the quantile regression method according to the linear regression model. The research results on the model for ROE, ROA show that the factors of financial leverage, asset turnover, and net profit margin have a positive impact on the performance of non-state enterprises in Hanoi, Vietnam. Factors such as number of years of operation, enterprise size, growth rate, current ratio, have no statistical evidence of impact on the performance of non-stated enterprises in Hanoi, Vietnam in all quantiles. Therefore, to improve financial performance, the management board needs to accelerate asset turnover and make rational use of business leverage – these are the driving forces behind improved financial performance. The number of years in operation or the size of the enterprise are not indicators for investors about whether an enterprise will be successful.

Abstract: Traditional biomass stove indoor air pollution continues to be a serious public health concern, especially in low- and middle-income nations where cooking exposes women the most. Long-term smoke and particulate matter intake have been connected to respiratory symptoms such wheezing, shortness of breath, and persistent cough, which increases morbidity in women. As a greener option, improved cooking stoves (ICS) have been developed with the goal of lowering emissions and increasing fuel economy. However, little is known about how usage factors, such as frequency of use affect respiratory related symptoms. The purpose of this study was to examine the Influence of ICS usage characteristics on incidences of respiratory related symptoms among women in Nakuru Town East suburbs. The study utilized mixed-method research design. Data collection tools included questionnaires for households and semi structured interview guides for FGDs and KIIs. 315 female heads of households were sampled and completed the questionnaire. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Qualitative data was content analyzed. Findings indicates that 74.9% had used ICS on the day the research was conducted, while 25.1% did not use it that day. Eighty-three-point four percent of owners used an ICS prior to their current one, and 16.6% (52) did not. On Daily usage patterns, 51.1% were using ICS for all meals, 25.7% for two meals, 13.7% for dinner only, 4.4% for lunch only or other meals, and 0.6% for breakfast only. Further findings also showed that, Women who had not used an ICS prior to their current one was 1.66 times more likely to report a cough, though the result remains marginally insignificant (p = 0.106). Findings of the study suggest that experience with ICS use over time may lower respiratory symptoms, possibly due to increased familiarity and effective use.
